Display black but controls working

Post  russhart on Sun Jun 30, 2013 2:00 am

HI, just updated to the latest version of the app (3.Cool and the editor (3.7) with plans to write my own own patch in PD to go from OSC to midi NRPN messages for a digital mixer. Did a simple layout with one fader only, loaded it, and the screen display in the app only shows black as if the graphics side isn't there. Loaded up the mixer layout on your site, same thing, only a black screen. But the thing is, the underlying controls still work. Through the console in PD I was able to see that I was moving the different controls.
Any suggestions?

It almost sounds like you have the opacity values set wrong for the colors. That would make the controller completely transparent. Set the opacity values to 255 to see if that fixes the issue.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

If that was the case, why would it also do that on a layout you designed, that I didn't modify at all but only loaded into the app?

Just tried a layout that was nothing more than a colored background. Even that doesn't show up. It looks exactly like when you open the app, but don't have any layouts loaded. i.e. Your gradulated grey to black screen. I did check the opacity, it was 255 as I didn't alter any colors at this stage as it was only done to test a PD patch. I'm sure it was OK until your last lot of changes this past month.

I was just trying to get more info and offer a possible solution.

Can you post the the simple fader layout that you created here?

And one more quick question...what is your screen resolution?

That's OK. I edited my post above as well.
Screen resolution is 1280x727

I also uninstalled the app and re-installed it to try. Still the same.
Would attach file but can't find where to do so?

That's very strange. There's no graduated grey-to-black screen in DAWOSC anywhere. Nor is there any code anywhere in the app to crate graduated screens. When there's no layouts loaded, the screen is completely black.

You can't attach at a file on the forum. That would require me paying a monthly fee for server starage...and I have another bills as it is! Just paste the text in the layout on your next post.

I should be able to look at it later today.

I might have worded that wrong. It is a black screen but looks a bit lighter near the menu bar at the bottom. So it might just be the menu /home bar causing that change of color. Just pointing out that it has always looked that way on my tablet.
Simple fader code below.

Just looking at your layout now and nothing looks wrong. I'll check it out tomorrow (I'm at work right now and I've got a bunch of commitments tonight).

I was able to find a bit of time to check out your layout and it works fine on my tablet. I also have the same resolution as you.

I'll send you a PM with a link to the upcoming version. Maybe that version will work better for you Smile

After uninstalling, installing, checking this and that, I finally went into my tablets settings, into developer options, and found a setting 'Force GPU rendering' (Use 2D hardware acceleration in applications) was ticked. I un-ticked it and I've got my display/controls back again.
Thanks Mark for your time but looks like the problem was my end.
