java.lang.NullPointerException

Post  Franz on Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:57 am

Hello,

I get an error box, ten or eleven times in a row, saying "java.lang.NullPointerException" while opening the app.
The app then loads the layouts fine, but I can't get any midi to MidiYoke...
Any help appreciated. App and editor updated to latest versions.

Sony XPERIA st15i 4.0.4 ICS

Hey Franz

I'll check it out tonight.

In the meantime, you can try the following:

- check to see if you've got the right IP address entered in the Preferences
- try LoopBe instead of MIDI Yoke. If I remember right, LoopBe is much newer than MIDI Yoke.

hey Franz

Can you let me know what the beginning of the error message says? That'll help me figure out where the error is occurring in the app.

thanks!

Hey thanks for the prompt reply !

The box title is "DAWOSC" and the message content is only "java.lang.NullPointerException".

It appears as soon as I try to use a layout that I've just loaded into one of the six "slots". The layout file is stored into the SDcard. I tried with two different layouts; both are very simple with only temporary buttons. I press OK, the message box closes and immediately comes up again for like ten times. The layouts then *seems* to work fine (buttons flash when touched).

Note: the message box won't come up again if I close and re-open the app. It comes up again only if I clear the slot and load the layout again.

Going to check IP and loopBE

My Fault ! but...

Post  Franz on Mon Dec 10, 2012 11:55 am

Hey again!

Definetly my fault: I was pointing at the wrong IP address, (ADSL/router instead of the actual PC). It would be nice if a meaningfull error message box would come up instead of what I saw.

Now midi-ox is showing the "note:on" messages coming from midi yoke port. Working!

Is there any reason why I see three "note:off" following instead of just one ?

Thanks a lot!

cool..thanks for the update Smile

Yeah, I"ll change that error message. I'll make that change tonight...thanks for the tip Smile

I've never noticed 3 note-off messages before. I'll look into it tonight. Thankfully, that shouldn't cause any problems though.

Regarding the multiple "note:off" messages: they happens at the slightest movement of the finger before releasing it from the screen; to reproduce in a clear manner: touch a temporary button and hold the finger there: "note:on" > "note:off" then slide the finger keeping it inside the button area: another "note:off" is sent every pixel.
