hi, couple of wip's for Nexus 7 & Reaper

Post  bkmaracas on Sun Jan 06, 2013 4:26 pm

hey,
I've Started toying with dawosc on N7 and reaper and should be good by the looks of things Smile

first tried a simple mixer with meters layout. then using the more sexy 'last touched parameter' features of reaper to control, well anything, with info about what you're twiddling.

i have a bunch of observations that i'll list in another post, as had a few frustrations that are natural for new software.

-- if anyone can see why stuff in the mixer layout doesn't play ball, do share.

these layouts use reaper default osc config file, except i had to comment out the 'volume str' sections as that constant stream of info messed with the volume faders, made them jump to zero etc at bad moments.

'last touched parameter' info and control layout. shows reapers osc 'contextual' feedback capabilities. (test but working well)

8 track mixer layout, VU meters, track labels and transport:

cheers.
Ben (benk on reaper forum btw)

I'm currently working on a feature that deals with OSC and how DAWOSC responds to incoming OSC commands. The feature is basically this:

Right now, when you move a controller, all the other controllers stop getting updated. With this new feature, when you move a controller, all the other controllers will continue to get updated. I'm hoping to have this available to everyone in a day or two.

I'm using Reaper to help build this feature and while working on this, I noticed that Reaper sends out a huge amount of OSC data every time you do something. Because of that huge amount of data being sent out, it was causing problems with DAWOSC, so maybe that's part of your problem.

I'll use your templates to help me test all this, so in the meantime, don't waste too much time trying to get it to work. It's either that your template/Reaper is wrong or this new DAWOSC update is needed (most likely it's the update that's needed!).

I'll keep you updated Smile

Thanks, that sounds good!

Will quickly mention couple of things ; dont get upset at my pickiness! It'll be great v soon IMO.

I found knobs jump/skip values in the middle region.
Soft takeover for controllers would prevent big value jumps on touch.
I found things required a bit more touch accuracy than I was expecting, so had to enlarge the controllers to compensate.
An undo in editor handy , as would be the mentioned elsewhere layer control.

Vu meters in reaper at least, need a touch to get going, and other sync update niggles with vol faders, my mixer layout should show that issue.
Would be great if there was a controller type you could add that switches layout, So I can have a button to quick switch to mixer layout or last touched layout, without going into menu and selecting.
If could layout change with osc msgs from software thatd be pretty powerful too BTW!
a rotary controller would be cool.

In the editor some /'s were removed at the start of patterns that turned out reaper needed, eg to get last touched param value to adjust with the fader.

Cheers for help and the work put in.

Thanks for looking into getting this working smoothly and with reaper and hope my early trials are of some use, I know reaper sends a lot of stuff but that the strong point, feedback on everything it is up to!

Nothing wrong with being picky...these kinds of ideas will make this a kick-ass app:)

A lot of of the ideas you mentioned should be implemented in the next few weeks.

As for quickly changjng from one layout to another, someone else suggested using a swipe gesture, which is how I'm going to do it.

Thanks for the ideas!

Hey Ben

I just wanted to give you an update on this. I'm making progress on this issue and I'm now hoping to have the new version of DAWOSC out for this weekend.

Thanks for your patience Smile

There's a lot of new features coming up in the next release. Right now they're all being tested, so it won't be long Smile
