set messages for controllers

Post  torrescampalans on Wed Jan 23, 2013 2:49 pm

would be nice that controllers accept "set" messages, so they can receive data from the DAW but not re-send it back. i'm thinking in a way you can share values for different layouts used in the same instrument, so i can have "detailed control layouts", for example. or a way you can use random generators with visual feedback in the tablet.

really enjoying your app. thanks a lot.

Hi

Glad you're enjoying the app Smile
Yeah, I can definitely do that. I'll add it to the list of requests later today.

I have a question for anyone out there concerning this request....
Is there somewhere where I can get a list of all the common OSC prefixes/commands? I use Cubase so I never use OSC.

i haven't seen any. i use maxmsp and sometimes i use the same prefixes commands, for simplicity, but mostly the prefixes i use depend on the max patch i want to control

ahh...ok

So I guess I'd have to make that definable in the editor.

So I guess I'd have to make that definable in the editor.

the idea is that every object can:

-send data with your touch : I move a fader with my finger, and it sends OSC data, for example "/fader1/0.5", that is received by a pan in DAW

-update its state and send data when it receives an addressed value from your DAW : I generate a value with a random generator in my DAW, and it sends OSC data, for example "/fader1/0.3" that is received by fader in tablet, and resended as "/fader1/0.3", that is received by a pan in DAW. this is the behaviour we have now.

-just update its state without sending any data if it receives the same addressed value prepended by "set", for example. : I am using a layout that contains that fader, and sometimes i want to send the value touchin the tablet, but sometimes i want to modify the value directly on DAW, and have its real state on screen, but with the behaviour we have now, we get endless loop of OSC DATA. or, i use a layout with a push button that sends "/button1/1", and another one with the same push button. i want that when i launch the secon layout it have real state on screen, but sure i don't want to send this "button1/1" OSC message to DAW again, since sometimes i would have an undesirable effect. so with, for example a message from DAW that looks like "/button1/set 1", the button updates its state, but doesn't send that "button1/1" again
just depending on the message, not to have controllers that can be configured in one way or another

expect it helps. best

On a related note, how would you set a matrix button on from osc? Is it possible?

A matrix button is actually identical to a regular button, so you would have to set the OSC prefix to whatever you want. The ON value should be 1 and the OFF value should be 0 (if I remember right - I only use OSC when I'm developing this app! I'm a Cubase user).

OSC values can be whatever you want, so ON and OFF values have to be user definable.
1 and 0 are quite common (= a good default value), but not standard.

They are user-definable. When you click on a button/cell in a matrix, you'll see the option to set the ON and OFF values.

Ok, then I misunderstood you here in the post, I didn't check the possibilities in the software.

Btw, I got my 10" Android tablet for DAWOSC today, so don't let me down... Wink
