DawOSC not sending OSC data

Post  dimkinys on Tue Feb 12, 2013 6:59 am

Hello there. I am a paying user, who is just getting into OSC. I've got a little bit of a problem... I am currently trying to connect via OSCulator instead of PD, I did set up the ports to 8001 as I should have, and I tested with the sample layout - OSCulator is not recieving anything. Then I decided to try it out in PD, same thing - no messages being recieved. Any idea what is going on? Running a Mac on Mountain Lion and A galaxy 2 10.1 tab.
Plus when I turn on DAWosc on my Tab, in the PD window it does seem to recognize it, seeing as it says Connected to port 8080.

After further attempts at making it work in PD, the furthest I got was that PD received osc: /dawosc/setup 192.168.1.64. And thats it. I tried it out with TouchOSC, with the Same PD setup, and everything was working perfectly. Any ideas?

Hey there!
What i was saying, is that when i was Moving the faders on my layout, and one the testina layout provided, in the pd Windows i didnt see any activity apart from the dawosc/setup message. Everything else was non responsive. Whereas touch Osc was displaying messages. Could it be a problem wih my layout config or something? Ford testina purposes i set up a button with every Osc prefix filled in and midi Chanel data, still nothing. When I come back from work i will post the layout config and screenshots. Cheers!

My PD patch file isn't supposed to show messages apart from the "connected" message. The other thing to keep in mind is that TouchOSC isn't designed to use my PD patch file, so anything is possible in that situation.

So what you're seeing sounds normal. Have you tried controlling an DAW/music software with DAWOSC yet?

sounds good!

Also remember that if you're ONLY using OSC (and not MIDI), that you don't even need PureData Smile

I'm heading out for several hours, I won't be able to respond until later tonight if you're still having problems.

Hello again Mark!

Everything started to work alright. I set up everything through OSCulator, much simpler to program the MIDI settings for me through it. Only thing that is quite annoying for me, is that the editor is only on Windows. I did try and use Wine for mac, the editor loads up etc, but when I try and upload a layout onto my tab, it says that the layout is in an older version and needs to be resaved with the editor. Any clue if that is fixable? I will have a look at the coding for two layouts made in wine and on my windows machine to spot the difference though.

Thanks a lot for this software Mark. Stopped me from overpaying and buying an iPad! If I get more questions I will definitely keep in touch with you.
Cheers!
D.

*EDIT

Just checked the coding for both of the templates. Both of them are exactly the same. No idea why is that happening then.

Glad to hear it's working!

I'll check out the editor thing tonight. I'm in the middle of adding more features, so it's possible that the version of the app is expecting a newer version of the layout.

Also, are you using v3.0 of the editor?

Someday, I'll get a mac and create a mac editor Smile

Yes I am using the 3.0 editor. When I load it up in Bootcamp it works perfectly. But when I use Wine ( windows app emulator for mac) after saving, it gives me that error. Looking further into it.

A mac editor would be amazing Smile

Yeah, I just confirmed that everything works properly too.

Can you post the layout that doesn't work here? or let me know if you figure what's different?

Yeah, a mac editor would be nice Smile someday soon I hope...

Hmmm... I'm not seeing anything wrong. There must be hidden characters in there. Can you email me the non-working version? My address is mark@markderrico.com

Thanks!

Update.
After further fiddling around, I found it that even if I code from scratch on my Mac, it still leaves me with the same error, saying that it is an old version of the layout formation, please resave the layout etc. Everything else is working fine to this moment.

Re: DawOSC not sending OSC data

Yeah, it's a Mac thing. I looked at your file using a hex editor and I found the problem.

Every line in a Windows text file ends this way:
LFCR

In your Mac text file, each line ends this way:
LFLFCR

where LF = line feed
CR = carriage return

I'll add a function in the editor to fix that. The problem is that I' in the middle of adding two new features that a lot of people want, so I can't release the editor with this new function until I get these other two new features finished. I expect to have the other two features finished in a few days hopefully.

So if you can hang on for a few days, I'd appreciate it! Smile And thanks for your help with this!
